If you’re new here you may not know about my birthday tradition, and if you’ve been following along for awhile you may or may not have forgotten but thank you for still being here! When I graduated from college at 21 I was entering a completely new chapter of my life. It was scary. But it was also important. So that year I hired a friend of my to take portraits of me for my 22nd birthday. And every year since I have invested in portraits of myself for my birthday.
To me these continued portraits are telling a story of growth, confidence, and individuality. My hope is that I’ll continue taking portraits every year until I no longer can. I’ve definitely been called out as being vain for doing this, but I’m gonna keep doing it because it’s a story I want to tell for myself and show my future children. I want them to see their mama at every stage in my life. To hear what highs and lows I had so that they know they aren’t alone. Of course that means I’ll have other big events photographed, printed, and displayed as well! But these are so near and dear to my heart! If I can leave you with one piece of encouragement it would be to find something that makes you feel good, and then prioritize doing that!
This year my dear friend Casia at Fletcher and Co. captured these images. I could not be more grateful for her hard work and attention to detail. If you haven’t seen her work you can check it out at their new studio at the MSA Annex! Especially if you need some new minimalist desert art for your home! Anyway, thank you all again for following this journey with me. I hope you enjoy this look at my 24th birthday portraits!
