Some of my couples have taken engagement photos in truly spectacular places! I’ve photographed some really cool places. My favorites are Europe, Sedona, and of course Disneyland! Every time I post about those sessions I get asked how to plan destination engagement pictures.
For me it’s easy! I love traveling and am actually on the road quite a bit. If your photographer is already going to be near an area you’ve always dreamed of doing your photos, try to coordinate your schedules, and set it up. Let’s say you and your fiancé were planning a vacation to San Francisco. AND you were dreaming of having your photo taken in front of the Golden Gate Bridge! Planning that is easy because you guys are already planning on being there – all that’s left is getting your photographer there too!
Sometimes destination engagement photos for me aren’t a destination for the couple! Remember that Golden Gate Bridge photo? Well the couple in that photo actually lives in San Francisco and flew me in to photograph them! If you have a photographer whose work you love don’t hesitate to ask them if they’ll travel to you. I bet the answer is yes!
Finally, if neither you nor your photographer has plans to travel to a specific location, but you know you’re dreaming of something really epic for your engagement photos, just ask! Simply get together with you photographer and plan the engagement session of your dreams! And if you don’t have a specific place in mind you can check out Scott’s Cheap Flights to find an awesome place to visit without breaking the bank! Your photographer may also know of some amazing local locations that still feel like you’re in an exotic destination!
