Six years ago I photographed my second wedding as a lead photographer ever. Nick, was the best man at that wedding. Saturday I photographed my second wedding that Nick was in, but this time he was the groom. Oh and the groom from that wedding I photographed 6 years ago? He was one of the groomsmen. It truly felt like a full circle moment in my career.
We actually figured out that connection during our first Facetime meeting, and I’m so glad we did! We may have spent more of that first conversation talking about our mutual past than we did about their wedding plans. But once we started chatting about the wedding I could tell Maria and Nick were made for each other. You know how certain people just balance each other? That was 100% the case for this amazing couple. I’m not exaggerating when I say they were literally finishing each others sentences.
Then came their engagement session, and the first time I met Nick and Maria in person! We drove up Mt. Lemmon to take their portraits at the same spot where they had had their first kiss! Then adventured along a path they used to hike, and finished at Windy Point. Each spot represented an important moment in their relationship! But I have to say probably the most important moment in their relationship (so far) happened at Hacienda Del Sol where they promised to love each other for the rest of their lives. But that wasn’t my favorite part of their wedding day. Neither was their first look (which usually is my favorite part).
My favorite part of their wedding day happened immediately after the ceremony. Their amazing wedding coordinator had escorted them to the bridal getting ready suite to have a moment alone together while the guests went to cocktail hour. I knocked on the door to get them for the marriage license signing. When I walked inside Maria was sitting on Nick’s lap, and he was wiping her tears of joy off of her face. That little glimpse into how caring Nick is, and how safe Maria felt was more emotional than the rest of their wedding day to me.
Maria and Nick, thank you for trusting me to capture your wedding day. I truly enjoyed every moment of it and feel so blessed that you invited me to be a part of your special day! I can’t wait to watch your relationship continue to grow!
Huge shoutout to the Creative Team without whom this beautiful wedding wouldn’t have been possible!
